- Borland's adoption of MFC speaks for that class library. No, it ain't perfect. Yes, there
- are better implementations of Windows class libraries. Microsoft tools aren't the best. My
- concerns are the same as yours, emerging standards. I think MFC will be it.
-
- I have spelled this out elsewhere on this forum. Microsoft has my business because they have
- the most attractive combination of tools. The level 2 Developers Platform with the VC++
- Subscription is an awesome combination. No one in the development market can match this. You
- get everything sent to you quarterly without muss or fuss (or messy pans to clean :-)).
-
- There is something like 100,000 pages of documentation all searchable with a very servicable
- search engine (FAST, too). The compiler and object library are updated also. As the standard
- emerges, you are guaranteed of having the latest version. Plus, the level 2 provides _all_
- the operating systems that Microsoft sells (except Win NT Server, that's level 3) along with
- every SDK, DDK, etc. It even provides all the international versions (Finnish version of Win
- NT workstation anybody???). The Developer's Library fully integrates with the Developer's
- Studio (VC++). It also supports the Test application (I don't have it) and standard
- version control systems. The combination is an awesome amount of stuff. For the price, it's
- cheap.
-
- I believe that making the decision you are about to without at least looking at Microsoft
- would be a mistake.
